Vital Strategies is hiring a Regional Communication Manager for the Africa region to support the Partnership for Healthy Cities (PHC) program. This full-time remote role (open to candidates based in Rwanda, Ghana, Kenya, or Uganda) focuses on supporting city-level communication efforts that promote public health policies, particularly in noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and injury prevention. The role involves strategic communication planning, media engagement, content creation, capacity building, and coordination with local and global partners.
1. City Communication Strategy & Planning
Develop and execute city-specific communication and advocacy plans.
Engage media outlets and thought leadership platforms.
Support city teams in creating messaging and communication materials.
2. Technical Assistance Coordination
Build capacity through media training, message mapping, and strategic communications.
Provide templates, tools, and guidance to cities.
Coordinate expert support for public health campaigns.
3. Content Development
Write and edit blogs, press releases, op-eds, social media content, and campaign materials.
Amplify stories of success across PHC cities via digital platforms.
4. Project Management
Maintain relationships with stakeholders and media.
Monitor communication efforts, evaluate progress, and report outcomes.
Manage vendors and external communication partners.

Experience in communications agency or nonprofit/international development.
Familiarity with the African media landscape and public health challenges.
Existing media contacts in the region.
Background in public health or NGOs.
6–7 years minimum in communications, PR, or advocacy (preferably in public health).
Experience working with city officials, media, and NGOs.
Proficiency with communication tools like Meltwater, Mailchimp, CMS, and social media platforms.
Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields:
Communications
Journalism
Public Policy
Public Health
Public Relations
Marketing
Must be based and authorized to work in Rwanda, Kenya, Ghana, or Uganda.
Up to 15% international travel required.
Flexible with cross-time-zone collaboration.
