World Bank Scholarships
(Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program)
Applicants must:
Be a national of a developing country that is a World Bank member (see official list).
Not hold dual citizenship with any developed country.
Be in good health.
Hold a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) earned at least three years prior to the application deadline.
Have at least three years of paid, development-related work experience acquired after earning their bachelor’s degree and within the past six years.
Be working in a full-time, paid, development-related job at the time of applying.
Be unconditionally admitted (except for funding) to at least one JJ/WBGSP-participating master’s program located outside both their country of citizenship and residence.
Not be a staff member or close relative of anyone affiliated with the World Bank Group (such as Executive Directors or their alternates).
Not have previously received or declined a JJ/WBGSP scholarship without completing the program.
All eligibility criteria are strictly enforced. No exceptions are made.
Apply during one of the two application windows (Window 1 or Window 2).
Applications must include an admission letter to a JJ/WBGSP-approved master's program.
Complete applications with all required documents must be submitted before the deadline.

Each application is reviewed independently by two qualified assessors. Scoring is based on:
Quality of professional experience (30%)
Strength of professional recommendations (30%)
Commitment to improving your home country (30%)
Quality of educational background (10%)
Final selection also considers:
Geographic and gender diversity
Financial need
Personal hardships or unusual life circumstances
Economy-class round-trip airfare between your home country and the host university
$600 travel allowance per trip
Full tuition coverage for the master's program
Basic medical insurance through the university
Monthly living stipend (varies by host country) for the duration of the program, up to two years
Visa application fees
Travel or support for family members
Extra-curricular courses or language training
Research or fieldwork expenses
Computers or educational tools
Resident permit fees
Any other travel during the program
Note: The scholarship cannot fully duplicate other financial aid. If awarded another scholarship, you must inform the JJ/WBGSP Secretariat.
